Pour a generous amount of high-smoke point cooking oil inside it, then preheat (not on high) and cook with it. To clean cast iron, never use soap; simply scrub your skillet with a stiff brush and hot water and dry it completely. After washing, rub some oil over your cookware's surface and place it in an oven at low temperature for the oil to seep in. It is not dishwasher-safe.
